Dance Studies Association President-Elect

I’m humbled to have been elected President-Elect of the Dance Studies Association. I will serve a shortened term of June 1st to September 1st and then transition into a renewable 2-year term as DSA President.

DSA is guided by a Visioning/Mission Statement,  Guiding Principles, and a Statement of Praxis. Three threads in this document important to me are 1) how to enact our mission and values through interactions with members, staff, the public, and major societal and geopolitical events; 2) what it means to be a US-based international organization “committed to re-center(ing) marginalized voices” in Dance Studies and how we work towards this; and 3) how we reshape the organization to serve the majority of members who work in professional contingencies. As President-Elect I will work with the membership, President, Board, and Executive Director to reflect on what we are doing well and what we can do better. Additionally, I will develop a plan to build DSA leadership among members based outside the US in a way that invites the organization to shift to meet them, rather than merely incorporating people into an existing US-model.
