aqueous Wetlands Education Center program

The dance is already happening all around you.
Notice with all your senses. Look, hear, smell, touch.
Breathe.
Feel the water around you and within you.
You are part of the dance.
Change your perspective as you wish.
Wander the wetlands.
We’ll end the dance together.
Listen for the call. Head for the horizon. Add your voice.

aqueous is an ongoing site-adaptive dance performance with the intention of cultivating the attention of audience members to the sources and locations of water around us, including its seasonal, geologic, and geographic abundance and scarcity.
aqueous was originally created as part of the NatureMoves Dancing on the Edge facilitator training program. The development of the piece was supported by the Texas Woman's University Department of Dance. This performance is supported by Planet Texas 2050, a University of Texas at Austin Grand Challenge, and a UT College of Fine Arts Community Engagement and Public Practice Seed Grant. The performance is offered in conjunction with the development of the undergraduate course Coastal Challenges and Change, to be taught in May 2026 by Dr. Sharon Herzka (Department of Marine Science), Dr. Rosemary Candelario (Department of Theater and Dance), and Dr. Rivka Eisner (anthropologist, UTMSI), with funding from the College of Fine Arts Community Engagement & Public Practice Seed Grant and the College of Natural Sciences STEMx Pathways Grant.
